What Do You Need to Rent a Boat at Lake of the Ozarks?

Viaggio tritoon rental boat from Big Thunder Boat Rentals on Lake of the Ozarks

Planning a boat day at Lake of the Ozarks? Renting a boat is an easy way to get the whole crew on the water without hauling a boat to the lake or worrying about ownership. If it's your first time renting, though, you probably have a few questions before you show up.

Here are a few things to know before your day with Big Thunder Boat Rentals.

What should you bring?

Bring your driver's license, any boating credentials required for the person operating the boat, and the basics for a day in the sun. We recommend:

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Towels and swimsuits
  • A hat
  • Drinks and snacks
  • A phone charger
  • A waterproof bag for phones, wallets, and other valuables

It never hurts to check the weather before you head to the marina, either.

Do you need a boating license?

Missouri's boater-education requirements can vary depending on the operator's age and circumstances. Before your reservation, make sure whoever will be driving has the documentation required by Missouri law. If you're not sure what you need, ask us before your rental day, and we can point you in the right direction.

What's included with the rental?

Required life jackets and safety equipment are included. Before you leave the dock, our crew will walk you through the boat and the basics so you feel comfortable heading out.

What kind of boats do we rent?

Our rental fleet includes Viaggio X24U tritoons powered by 200 HP Suzuki outboards. They're a great fit for Lake of the Ozarks because you get plenty of room to relax without giving up the performance you want for a full lake day.

Cruise around, stop for a swim, grab lunch on the water, or add some watersports to the day. You don't have to over-plan it.

Want to tube, ski, or wakeboard?

We have add-ons available, including tubes, water skis, wakeboards, and lily pads. Let us know what you want when you reserve so we can help get everything lined up.

What if you've never driven a boat before?

Tell us. Seriously. We'd rather know you're new to boating so our team can spend a little extra time helping you get comfortable before you head out.

Lake of the Ozarks can get busy, especially on summer weekends and holidays. Take your time, stay aware of the boats around you, and follow the applicable boating rules.

How early should you book?

If you have a specific summer weekend, holiday, or major lake event in mind, book early. Those dates can fill up quickly. If your schedule is flexible, weekdays are also a great time to get out and enjoy the lake.

Ready for a lake day?

Pack the cooler, grab the crew, and we'll help with the rest. Whether the plan is cruising, swimming, tubing or a little bit of everything, Big Thunder Boat Rentals makes it easy to get out on Lake of the Ozarks.
