Somebody in the group chat finally says it: "Are we renting a boat?" If you're coming to Lake of the Ozarks for Labor Day weekend, now is a good time to turn that conversation into a plan.
You don't need an itinerary down to the minute. You do need a date, a headcount, and someone ready to operate the boat. Get those pieces settled first, and the fun part gets a lot easier.
Start with your crew
Big Thunder Boat Rentals requires renters to be at least 21. Our rental limit is 12 people total, including adults and children, with a maximum combined person weight of 2,200 pounds. Count everyone before you reserve.
Decide who will operate the boat, too. Each operator should bring a valid driver's license and any required boating safety credentials. Check the current Missouri requirements before your trip instead of leaving that question for pickup.
Know which dock you're heading to
We have locations at Ozark Yacht Club at the 1 MM, off Bagnell Dam Boulevard, and GlenCove Marine at the 3 MM, off Carol Road. Check your reservation for the assigned pickup location. Sending that detail to the whole group can save a lot of "Where are you?" calls that morning.
Leave room in the budget for fuel
Your boat leaves with a full tank, but fuel is not included in the standard rental price. You're responsible for refilling the tank when you return unless you purchase the fuel inclusion package. Ask about that option when booking or at pickup.
A $500 security hold is also placed on your credit card at the time of rental. Bring a major credit card and review the rental agreement before departure.
Pick a few things you actually want to do
A swim stop, lunch, and time to cruise can make a full day. Leave some flexibility for conditions and the pace of your group. Pets and fishing aren't permitted on our rental boats, so plan accordingly.
Keep the return time in mind as you go. Late returns are charged at $5 per minute, and a long lunch is a lot less fun when you're watching the clock all the way back.
